If you’re looking to straighten your smile and correct any bite alignment issues, braces are a great treatment option. Braces have evolved considerably over the years and are now more comfortable and versatile than ever before. At OrthonTEX, our team is proud to offer two braces options among our many orthodontic treatments: ceramic braces and metal braces.
What Are Metal Braces?
Modern metal braces have the unlucky situation of being compared to their earlier counterparts. However, the modern versions are much more comfortable and streamlined. Metal braces are a great option for our patients with complex issues.
What Are Ceramic Braces?
Like metal braces, ceramic braces sit over the front of the teeth. However, the brackets are made from a tooth-colored ceramic instead of metal. For this reason, ceramic braces are generally less noticeable than metal braces.
Are Metal Braces or Ceramic Braces Right for Me?
Selecting the right kind of orthodontic treatment depends on several factors like your oral health history, the complexity of your orthodontic issues, and your personal preferences. For example, some people prefer braces to aligners because they’re worried about losing the removable aligners. Some people prefer a minimal disruption to their appearance and opt for ceramic braces or clear aligners. You will discuss each of these factors during your consultation with Dr. Meason before deciding on the right treatment option for your smile.
Are There Differences in Care Between Metal and Ceramic Braces?
Whether you get ceramic or metal braces, you’ll need to take care not to damage them. This means avoiding certain foods that are especially sticky or hard. This also means maintaining superb oral hygiene at home and when you are out and about by brushing and flossing morning and night, as well as after eating. If you opt for ceramic braces, keep in mind that the clear brackets require meticulous cleaning to avoid staining.
