When you have a consultation with an orthodontist, there are several topics you should cover so you feel well-informed about your upcoming treatment. Here are some questions to ask your orthodontist in McKinney, TX!
WHICH TREATMENT IS RIGHT FOR ME?
There are a variety of orthodontic options to choose from, such as clear aligners, metal braces, or ceramic braces. Which kind will work best for your situation? If you have mild to moderate alignment issues, clear aligner therapy straightens teeth quickly and comfortably. For more complicated issues, you’ll need metal braces or ceramic braces. Ceramic braces have tooth-colored brackets so they are less noticeable than traditional braces.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY TEETH DURING TREATMENT?
If you have clear aligners, you remove them to brush and floss your teeth. Your aligners will need to be frequently rinsed with lukewarm water and brushed with liquid dish soap.
To make cleaning around your braces easier, we recommend using special tools, such as an electric toothbrush, water flosser, interdental brush, and floss threaders. You’ll also need to avoid certain foods, like popcorn and corn on the cob, to avoid damaging your braces.
HOW LONG WILL MY TREATMENT TAKE?
Every patient’s treatment length is different. The average Invisalign® treatment lasts about 12 months. Braces, on average, take anywhere between 12-24 months. More complicated alignment issues take longer to fix than mild ones.
Patient compliance will also affect treatment duration. Clear aligners should be worn 20-22 hours a day for optimal progress. And sometimes braces will require you to wear a special pattern of rubber bands to increase force in a particular area.
HOW MUCH WILL TREATMENT COST?
At OrthodonTEX, we offer many payment options, from HSAs and FSAs to traditional dental insurance (some insurance providers offer at least partial coverage for orthodontics) and our own in-house financing.
